But what fool would brave a tornado, especially one that was an F2-3 at the time!!!

Amazing video. Thanks for posting.

With these types of videos on You Tube, I am also bewildered at how so many people immediately cry "it's fake". I see this arguement in so many videos published on the internet. I wonder if it is a product of the internet generation. Is is that people do not want to believe that accidents happen? Or that the younger generations have been so conditioned to CGI and special effects in movies and TV, that nothing seems real?

May I add another one? I can assure you that this one is also real because the actual documentation for the accident is available on the FRA (Federal Rail Auth.) website.

Tornadoes form quickly, and trains do not stop quickly. Nor can they move to avoid one!

All true....but it doesn't take much to keep an eye out on what's happening outside the cabin...and keep abreast of the weather on the radio. Even if they couldn't avoid the tornado, slowing down and stopping would've prevented a massive pile up

That second train was parked too close to the turnout (he had the signals against him), which means it was probably his fault the trains collided. Otherwise, they'd have passed by safely.

Ruined two good SD60 locos!!!!.

Bit of a train enthusiast

I'm in the process of building an N scale model of the railway (BNSF) that's mentioned in the report

At best it takes a mile or two to stop a freight train. And tornado warnings are at best around ten minutes. Plus, looking at the video it doesn't look like he drove through a tornado, there was just one close by.

Still, I was expecting much, much worse when I saw that tanker careening towards the locomotive!

True, depending the speed at the time.

So did I....wonder what was in the tanker?? From the report, it sounded like some hazardous waste or liquid of some sort.

It is becoming common in the US.

I am doing a freelance N scale layout in covering BNSF, SOO and B&O, initally in the Montana/Marias Pass area but I've changed it to more around Ohio/Indiana area.

Better cut this out or we'll have to ask for a dedicated IIS sub-forum for model trains! So many hobbies, so little money
