Sad - and a warning
Those of you with young children or who have young children visit - search your houses with a critical eye for such hazards - watch for curtain and blind cords, for example.
From ABC Online news:-
Former heavyweight boxing world champion Mike Tyson's four-year-old daughter has died, a day after she was injured in an accident at her Arizona home, Phoenix police said.
Exodus Tyson had been on life support in hospital since Monday, when she was found by her seven-year-old brother with her neck wrapped in the cable of a treadmill.
The boy called his mother from another room, and the 34-year-old woman freed the girl, called an ambulance and tried to revive her.
Mr Hill said that the police investigation of the scene indicated a "tragic accident".
"Somehow she was playing on this treadmill, and there's a cord that hangs under the console - it's kind of a loop," he said.
"Either she slipped or put her head in the loop, but it acted like a noose, and she was obviously unable to get herself off of it."

That is interesting, my wife purchaced a treadmill only last week and we have a saftey cord that is held on magnetically. If you fall off or move too far away from the console it pulls out and stops the treadmill.
My children like to use it and was curious how it got stuck around.
I won't let my children on without the cord.

Very tragic.
I remember seeing a little girl in England age 2 that had a similar event. She had ben playing on a slippery dip in a park in the care of her Aunt. She had a handbag around her shoulders. She slipped when climbing the steps and was hung by the handbag with her feet caught in the ladder. Unfortunately she wasnt seen for about 1 minute but this was long enough to kill her.
One of the saddest cases I ever witnessed in A & E.
Just an accident but ruined so many lives.

I know it is tough on parents, but you have to double-check everything, run a "what-if" in your mind on everything, and watch them like a hawk in those early years. But you cannot pack them in cotton-wool. No wonder we go grey so early. Those that lose a child go greyer much faster, however, I have observed.

One very lucky little girl...
The most lethal of all devices is lurking in our garages, but we all turn a blind eye.

The definition of life is death, by that I mean we live our lives learning how to prolong our enjoyment of its very essence,to give ,to teach and advise and nurture our young, as well as listen and learn ourselves. Unfortunately , this poor young girl wont have these opportunitys. Very sad..

Absolutely agreed. Parents should not out-live their own children.
If people just realise this one fact, then the respect and care shown for others might bring down so many of the violent deaths occurring in recent years.

A very sad topic.
As parents it's our responsibility to provide our children with a safe environment to grow up in. But unfortunately accidents do happen and it's tragic for everyone concerned.
Look at Andrew Ettinghousen, he lost his little girl when she tried to hug the Tellytubbies and pulled the TV down upon herself. Do you have your TV screwed down so this doesn't happen to your kids/grandkids?
We cannot wrap our kids up in cotton wool either. They need to be able to make mistakes too. How else will they learn?
eg. You can tell them over and over again not to play with bees, but until they actually get stung, they'll keep on trying to catch them. (I witnessed that one only yesterday)

very sad, indeed!
A journalist, whose articles I read, lost his son (or daughter?) to SIDS whilst he was holding the baby and typing up an article ! .
exact cause of the SIDS was not known but foul play was not involved.
