The Big Picture

Today's APOD, taken by Dennis di Cicco & Sean Walker, shows a house in Boston with lots of nebulae above it.
I like it. http://antwrp.gsfc.nasa.gov/apod/ap090411.html

More than just cool ...

Hi Glen & All,

For those interested, there is a write-up of the ins & outs of this image and its capture in the April edition of US S&T p66 and following.

Not only is it stunningly beautiful, but there is stacks of information in it. It is almost centred on Barnards Loop that despite its enormous size in our sky, is only a part of the image.

And look at the bubble around Lambda Orionis! We're used to thinking the Rosette (NGC 2244 + 2237) was big in the eyepiece or even the film-frame or chip ... wow

Best,

Les D
