National Camp in Tassie 2006/7??

Hi All,

I have been giving some thought to a rotating camp every 1 or 2 years making its way around Australia.

We do a similiar thing with work, where the annual conferences are held in a different state every second year.

I know school holidays are a bugger as they do not always align themselves, but I am thinking that we could combine family holidays and a 2 or 3 day star camp and then families can take an extra week to do some touring etc.

My thoughts are that with Tasmania and smaller cities and the need to entertain the kids, then accomodation in say Launceston or our capital Hobart would be best as opposed to a off site camp site. There are markets and indoor swimming centres etc. It would also be a short bus ride to an observing site?

We can get good corporate rates at a place in Hobart called the Woolstore. We have held two conferences there. It is next to the water in the centre of town. It has hotel rooms, 1 and 2 bedroom apartments as well so you can do your own cooking.

If would be great to see the rest of Australia and also attend a star camp as well. As we all know, money is never falling off the trees and us guys with young families must balance the hobby (obsession) with the family side of things.

Early days yet, just looking for comments and ideas.

Good idea Dave, but it would have to be at the peak of summer, or at least before easter, otherwise Forestry Tas & Co will spoil the skies....

All sounds great Dave, but I wouldn't fancy carrying my dob on a bus 'to and fro' from a Motel to the viewing site each night.

But keep the ideas flowing.
