DSI first light

Yesterday, after I picked up the much anticipated DSI which had been on order for nearly five months. I tried imaging Jupiter with it. This was after I had imaged it with the LPI. I have to say that while I found the the unit itself quite impressive looking, neither its performance for planetary work or the software was impressive.

The DSI may have problems with imaging planets. Even at .088 of a second the image was burnt out and virtually useless. And the software was well very clunky. Just tacked onto the LPI program. Seems like a bit of a rush job to me. Not terribly impressed at this stage. I will report when I have done some deep sky stuff. And hopefully after this week I will have sorted the bugs out with the planetary stuff.

Good luck Paul! Hope you have better luck with the deep sky images. Hopefully, when you've had more imaging time you could also let us know how it compares with your LPI, as I've heard nothing but success about using the LPI for planetary imaging and it would be interesting to see if the DSI can live up to its expectations. Keep at it

Paul,
we can compare notes then, as a good friend bought one recently, but has no idea how to use it. He left it with me today, and I am to trial it for him. Time will tell.
