LMC in Stellarium?

May sound like a stupid question but I can't find it?

Try asking for "Large Magellanic Cloud" in full Mark.... some require this.

Good question...typing in the search "Large Magellanic Cloud" or "LMC" or "PGC17223" reveals nothing.

It appears not to be even designated in Stellarium...given a name when you click on it.

All very odd.

doesn't appear to be a functionin the config area (andromeda is there) - I might be seeing things but the program appears to have a slightly cloudy smudged area in tucana & dorado where the lmc & smc should be

Wonder what happens when you type in "Milky Way"?

Is the question because you cannot locate it? Look SSE, between Dorado and Mensa (turn on the constellation drawings and names) - you cannot miss it!

Edit: dannat - it's definitely visible on my screen, as is the SMC. But the Tarantula neb doesn't show, it seems to me. And, as I recall, poor 47 Tuc is a very sad representation.

if you add the nebuale extras available as a separate download from the stellarium wiki page - there are images for SMC & LMC. I have the zip file but am unable to transfer it to the program files - I cannot find where to put them
hers is the link I found them on

Thanks Daniel, I'm working on it. I mustn't have downloaded the nebula images previously.

I have figred out how to install in Mac os X - in Apps menu click on stellarium and then click on the little wheel in the finder box - you need to show package contents & then go trhu resourcres to you get the nebula folder - copy the extra images form the link I gave earlier then you can search sc or lmc
cheers
In windows you should be able to look at the stellarium folders and see which one you need to put it in.

I already had the nebula pack installed. I found the button to turn on the names. Neither Tarantula, nor Carina nebula are included.

The LMC and SMC are not in the default search list. The default nebula list only has about 109 nebula textures. To display and search for these items a texture for the item needs to be displayed and a reference to it with all the relevant details njeeds to be placed in the nebula_textures.ini file.

I have added these to mine along with about 40 other textures and they work fine.

Note: Version 0.8.2 has a different format to version 0.9.0 and 0.9.1
