pinched mirrors ?

hi all

just an update

ive just completed the removal and reinstallation of the primary and secondary mirrors on the BFG (Big Freaking Gun not the Other f )

the primary was removed easily the 3 clips holding the mirror were just stuck
to the mirror and came away easily so no pinching there ?
turned the contraption over as said in starkler's how to (ta btw) and the 3 legs (lack of a better word) holding the back of the mirror were stuck on difficult to remove but came away eventually as far as the cell was concerned it fell out no problem being to tight there (not really fell out )

so i put everthing back together again the hardest part was trying to get the whole primary mirror assembly back into the OTA man what a hassle because as soon as i removed the assembly that darn thing went out of shape
(OTA)

then i tackled the secondary next; getting it out of the OTA was a piece of cake , put it on the newspaper and removed the clip and screw mirror stayed
on the newspaper so no pinching there however the foam was a bit on the over kill which i would assume pushed the mirror out so i trimmed the acess so it now just sits comfortably now only needs a very slight push down onto the foam so no pinching there over all i can say it was easily enough to do if i can do this anyone can

so the bottom line is nothing that ive come across seems to cause the problem iam having with the seeing of my mars posting

so now ill have to recollimate and see if i still get the seeing problems.

(what i had here was tails on jupiters moons as well on mars plus on mars i was getting 4 lines out from the planet (like cross hairs if u know what i mean)

The 4 "cross-hair" spikes are from your secondary spider John. [the 4 vanes holding the secondary to the tube] The only way to get rid of them is to get a curved spider setup. The 'tails' could be an insufficiently cooled mirror, or out of collimation I guess?

I get tails when the LX isn't sufficiently cooled.

Hehe! I know what you mean John about the OTA going out of shape.

It took me by surprise when I took mine out to loosen the clips. What a hassle trying to get the cell back in.

I solved it by leaving the cell out and forcing the OTA to stay into a circular shape. It took a bit of pushing and pulling but now it is almost round. Then the cell went in much easier!

The thickness is not much, its only a wrapping.

NO thanks. I'll stick with my 2mm aluminium with 6mm steel end-rings.

I was getting "tails" on bright objects and it to be the secondary not centred correctly on the axis of the focuser. Its only the first step in the collimation process and I missed it so its possible you could have too. I solved it by putting some graph paper behind the secondary and using the lines as references to centre the secondary. When that was done the rest was easy.

Cheers
