Hi Ian
You could try Mathew at Telescopes & Astronomy in S.A. (no affiliation) he used to stock them, or just buy one off Ebay, I just did, to replace the 1mw green laser that I purchased about 10 years ago. There were no questions about if I was a member of an astro club, which I am, that you are supposed to be to legally able to buy laser pointers as far as I'm aware.

You need a Police Permit for a hand laser pointer in Victoria.

If you try to bring one in from overseas fill in all relevant paperwork which you should be able to get through an astronomy society if you are a member.
I didn't know what had to be filled out, purchased one online from overseas, it got intercepted and caused a host of problems. I eventually received my item but I wouldn't bother again.
Though I don't think there was any penalty, I just wanted what I paid for and kicked up a fuss till I got it.

I'm not sure if they sell on eBay but I haven't looked since in NSW any member of an astronomical club can legally own one.

I bought one off eBay several years ago for about $20 and had no issues getting it through customs, etc. Things may have changed since then. It works very well, and has a "disperser" on the front to scatter the light to make patterns, possibly to avoid any issues with how strong the single beam is, but you just unscrew this and you have a terrific laser pointer. I had to buy a batter from Battery World to fit it, but it was only a couple of dollars.
