Aurora from Swan Reach Imaging

On the morning of the 24th of April our allsky camera recorded the G4 storm that his earths magnetic field. Consider also the latitude this was taken at of 34.5 degrees south. That is higher than Adelaide.

These are single frames with no processing. Of note is the overblown areas on a 30 second exposure. This must surely have been visible to the naked eye and perhaps even shown some colour. It registered as a Kp8 on the US scale and I have seen a Kp7 on our southern shores which was very bright and showed a slight silver green colour.

I anticipate that this solar cycle will produce some outstanding displays. Every couple of weeks it seems the aurora get bigger and brighter than the last as cycle 25 rolls on.

amazing images Paul. That certainly was one bright aurora and it really must have been naked eye visible....great to be able to record this from so far north

looking forward to the next outburst of activity.

Cheers Ray

ps. Looks like your skies are excellent at the new site!
