Hey Doug. Lovely images and beautifully processed. The Statue of Liberty is a cracker with such an interesting wider field.
I've been using your no-longer-wanted Antlia ALP-T filter with my Askar 400. Great combination for those of us stuck in suburbia.
Thankyou Graeme, I loved that Antlia Golden filter - hope you’re getting inspired by its results too. The images from that filter and the 2600MC nudged me into Mono imaging but I miss the OSC a bit.

Well what more could you ask for...I would be so very happy to get such wonderful images from any of my scopes...I was thinking about an Askar and certainly your photos suggest one could trust the brand...but also in looking at your images I think I should get my 80mm to a similar level as where you now find rather than just buying more stuff.

The Askar 400 has proved to be a very nice little workhorse. For me, 400mm is a sweet spot for wide field imaging, but with the Askar 0.7x reducer the scope becomes useable at 280mm f3.9 - the SMC image was done at that focal length.
So, I’m happy with it

Well Doug you should be...I dont know if you are aware of my ridiculous situation scope wise...80 mm ZWO 1600 narrow band set up, RASA 11 inch ZWO 2600 OSC, 115mm ZWO 2600 narrow band, and working up a 8 inch rig with OAG and ZWO 2600 narrow band set up...and seriously the espirit 80 mm wins hands down..and I have yet to try it with a 2600 mono set up....the RASA can't handle narrow band ( me really filter changing is the pits) and it is good via the ZWO 2600 OSC but I think my m42 via the 80mm and narrow band is comparable to probably my best image ever of m42 via the RASA...
I bought the rig that carries the eight inch as a place holder for an Askar 130, and just as I got that idea to not buy one ...out of my system... you go waving the brand name in front of me...
But I was going to run it at native 1000 mm via OAG ( hence a trial with thec8 inch also at 1000mm fl) and seeing your stuff has settled me down so sincerely thank you...
AND keep the coming..perhaps you may care to contribute to the program to make up a batch of astro photos to go in a wall projector at the Lismore Radiology dept...see thread in General Chat re ..Doing something worthwhile with your images I think I called it...

Thankyou again Alex - small is beautiful indeed IMO, less headaches, more forgiving and great results thanks to that!
I've just purchased a RC6 from an IIS member which, with new focuser, OAG, EFW and 2600M, is significantly bulkier than the Askar and significantly more sensitive to any weak points in my setup - enjoying the challenge nonetheless!
I bought it to get a bit deeper without changing mount etc - hopefully it'll keep that side of my appetite whetted for now.
That said, I've been considering something in the 135mm range too (another widefield sweet spot)
I will check out the thread you're talking about - I'd love to contribute some images to that project

The Askar refractor has been my main imaging scope, love it - just bought a RC6 from an IIS member and am loving that scope too, but cheap RC's cost money to become 'real scopes' in terms of mounting plates., focuser upgrades, flatteners etc etc - That's Astrophotography Folks!!
