Post New battery technology allows for faster charging and increased durability - UNSW

13th December 2022

Scientists from Yokohama National University and UNSW Sydney have
developed a material that allows solid-state batteries to retain their charging
capacity after many cycles. The electrode material, a lithium titanate and
lithium vanadium dioxide composite, maintains the same volume when fully
charged and discharged, which prevents damage to the battery and allows it
to retain its charging capacity for longer periods. Solid-state batteries are
safer than lithium-ion batteries, which contain liquid electrolytes that can spill
if the battery is punctured, and can also be charged much faster.

that's good news but how about the longevity here https://www.popularmechanics.com/sci...r-28000-years/

GMG latest updates for Graphene Aluminium-Ion Battery

Compared with Lithium-Ion Batteries V Graphene Aluminium-Ion Battery.

Graphene Aluminium-Ion Battery calculated energy density has increased to 290-310 Wh/kg versus 100-265 Wh/kg of lithium-Ion battery.
Rechargeable, up to 70 Times Faster-charging. (under a minute for a phone battery)
Up to 3x More Battery life than Lithium-Ion Batteries.
Greener & Safer.
No Lithium or rare earth materials – uncomplicated supply chain.

Sounds promising, except for graphene currently being expensive and energy-intensive to make.

True, but costs will be driven down as production centres consolidate and new technologies come online, for Multi-wall CNT's production levels are expected to double those of 2021 by 2023.

With energy, concrete and soon fabrics needing CNT's and the size of those consumers markets, production levels will only increase as more applications come online. Lucky Goldstar (LG) is building a lot of CNT factories and Samsung is the world largest patentor of CNT's.

Ps. GMG has developed a proprietary production process to decompose natural gas (i.e. methane) into its elements, carbon (as graphene), hydrogen and some residual hydrocarbon gases. This process produces high quality, low cost, scalable, ‘tuneable’ and low/no contaminant graphene suitable for use in clean-technology and other applications.

Pps. Rio Tinto’s Chief Scientist, Nigel Steward, commented, “Our companies share a vision of a low carbon future and we see great potential in the partnership. We aim to develop a truly green battery from our low carbon aluminium, which could transform the way we supply and store energy to anything from a leaf blower to a mining haul truck. It is a very exciting prospect and we are looking forward to bringing together the technical ingenuity of both Rio Tinto and GMG.”

Now persuade the car industry to replace lead-acid with these…
