M83 Galaxy 1st autoguided image

M83 Galaxy "Southern Pinwheel"

After years of alt/az unguided imaging finally this is my 1st attempt at auto guiding using an off axis guider and Orion auto guiding camera and PHD2 auto guiding software.

The 1st night was totally used up in trying to learn how to set it all up the second night clouds then finally a night good for imaging, I need to gather much more than 70 mins of subs so hopefully clouds clear soon.

Still waiting for a clear night so I processed what I managed to gather so far and also experimented using the 2x Drizzle in DeepSkyStacker

20 x 3 min subs iso1600
20 x 30 sec subs iso1600

Total 70mins

12inch Meade LX200 at f6.3 (alt/az de rotated)
Orion Auto guider, PHD2
Sony Nex5n DSLR (full spectrum modified)
Processed in DeepSkyStacker, Startools, Gimp

Full Field View and 2x Drizzle View below:

Great work Wayne If I may ask- how are you de-rotating the alt-az mount?

Thanks Colin, i will continue to work on this one, if the clouds clear.

Thanks Greg.

I use the Meade LX200 in alt/az setup with the electronic Meade #1220 Field Derotator attached to the end of the Meade zero shift micro focuser.

The meade derotator works well as long as you remember to sync the object with autostar hand unit just before starting imaging it seems to keep the derotation speed more accurate, if not synchronized the derotation speed seems to wander a little.

So the image train is: focuser / derotator / meade f6.3 reducer flattener / off axis guider and camera / Sony Nex-5n DSLR

The length of the imaging train prevents imaging close to the zenith.
