Just started.

Hi all. Just started learning AP. My first decent photo of the Moon after trial and error. Equipment. 254mm semi-truss dob on a home made split-ring mount. Nikon D7000 ISO 400 at 1/100 second.

It is overexposed, so next time I'll fine tune settings. Thanks for your advice Raymo.
Cheers!

It is a great start Always nice to be able to fit the entire moon in a single frame. With the moon you can shoot at ISO 200, this gives a bit larger dynamic range (larger range between black and white). The moon is plenty bright enough

Nice start, just out of curiosity, you have been a member of the forums for 11 years, what made you decide to get into AP only now?

Nice work on your venture into AP. Just out of curiosity, do you have pics or plans of your split ring mount? I have always loved the look of these..

Hi Aidan. I have always enjoyed observing and after I brought my 12" dob a few years ago, I had my 10" dob sitting in my back observatory not doing much and this gave me the opportunity. In 2015, I did a heap of research and looked at what I was getting into and spent 11 months designing and building a mount to suit and then modifying the 10" dob. During all this, my dear wife knew someone who was selling a DSLR. A trip to Bintel for a few bits and pieces and then a new learning curve, (and will continue for a while!), has began. I guess I take a bit longer to evolve but it has been worth the wait.
Cheers!

Hi Andrew! Click onto the ATM section and search for a thread titled "Current Project" A brief description of the mount and the maths for the RA drive should be useful.
Cheers!

Hi all. I did a bit of refinement to correct the over exposure. Still learning as I go along.
