Not sure what to think of this. ANU's gain may well be astronomy's loss. I also think it can't be too great being a VC and having to deal with the pollies, esp the present bunch. Then again, pay day must be nice and the VC's residence down there on the lake shore is pretty swish . I hope he strongly champions science, both education and research.
From what I have seen and heard from him I think he will be a great choice for the job.
He actually lives a few km down the road from me (he has a small winery) so I couldn't see him moving from the peace and quiet of Wamboin not to mention the dark skies for the hustle, bustle and hot air from Canberra.
