Stockport Observatory.

Stockport Observatory (80km north of Adelaide) is having a star party on May 23. I would love to go, but we live 2 hours away

There is a caravan park right next door. Or it's only 40 mins from Gawler, and there is a much nicer caravan park there.

Two hours is not a long time to travel for a star party.
Dark skys and astro company are worth it.
Many people travel much further.
Cheers

Unfortunately I'm only on my Learners so I'd have to find someone willing to make the trip but I'll hopefully be able to attend the next one. I love the thought of spending time with like-minded stargazers.

Haha I'm asking on Facebook so anything is possible. Currently trying to twist my fiancé's finger, then if he says yes I'll just need to find a sitter for my girls. Wish me luck!

If everything goes well I'll go to the November star Party. It'll be warm enough that I can take my 5 y/o daughter, but I'm hoping the mozzies won't be a problem

The last one I went to in summer was a nightmare for bugs and mozzies, but that is what bug repellent is for!

There is one being held in August, but that'll be way too cold for a 5 y/o. I might have to invest in a bucket load of aeroguard. Have you been to a Stockport star party before?

The ASSA has a sub-group based in the Riverland (most live in and near Loxton), so if you send me a PM with some details I'll try to put you in touch with them. They have some nice scopes and I am sure would love to show their skies to you.
Easier than a trip to Stockport, and generally darker skies too!

Thanks Dean! I didn't know there was one so close. Loxton is just across the river so that's great for me
