M45 - Vicsouth - Work in progress

Hi everyone,

First Luminosity data from Vicsouth, Nhill. 12x10mins on the new QSI camera.
Bit of moisture and hazy cloud about, so not perfect seeing, but a good hit out and systems check for the camera anyway.

Was fun to be out there imaging with 40-50 other geeks like myself, gotta love a good star party!

I have also made a cyanotype of this data, with the blue toned version. Certainly not for the purists, and probably not everyone's cup of tea - but it appeals to my creative side

I have some RGB data to add to this, but I think it'll be compromised by cloud.
As always, feedback is most welcome, and thanks for looking.

I followed this up last night with some 5mn Ha on the Tarantula from my backyard. Did my first ever 15min subs and was pleased that the EQ6 held up well and stars are still round and sharp. Only got 90 mins data before the dreaded clouds rolled in, but delighted with this camera's performance so far. Hopefully if the clouds go away, I'll get a full NB session in soon.

It's pretty cool imaging in NB under a full moon, but does it make a big difference with the NB if the moon is up?

It will depend on the bandwidth of your filters, how bright the moon is and where it is in relation to your target. OIII is affected the most. I generally try to get Ha and SII on nights with a bright moon and I don't bother if the moon is anywhere near my target unless it's only a thin sliver.

Nice going Andy.
M45 has always appealed to me. It's those great swweping expanses of rflection nebula that seem to be moving in opposing directions that make it a dramatic and dynamioc scene.
You've captured it in a good scale as well - giving the whole structure good balance and context. Well done.
