Rho Ophiuchi

You know that stormy windy weather that swept through the Sydney area over the weekend? In the hope of getting to Katoomba on Saturday, I had decamped with the wife to a place near Lithgow for the weekend, and just before the wind rose to gale force I caught this view on Friday in excellent transparent conditions. I was glad of a cosy fire to hide next to on the Saturday!

A stack of 3 x 6-minute exposures, ISO 800, f/4, EOS 60D, 100mm lens, mounted on the Skytracker. 6 minutes is probably a bit much for the Skytracker at this focal length, but stacking the best 3 of 5 reduced some of the blurring of the stars.

Larger version available here - I've set up a PBase account to show some of my better widefield astro efforts, and slowly improving processing skills. Comments and criticisms are always most welcome!

Very nice result!
I love the dark streaks and the coloration.
Good work.

Hi Pat, it's the Canon EF 100mm Macro USM. Very nice lens (and also handy for actual macro shots )

Send the makers of the Skytracker a copy Andy, to show them what their product can do.
