Is it ok fro me to move a dob including its whole base on a dolly trolley? the kind removals use when moving a fridge.
It supports all the weight and never gets knocked around but in order to easily load it onto the trolley and tip it back I have to pull slightly on the rim at the top. I use a tie down strap to keep it snug to the trolley.
I have never used one (Dob) but would only imagine there would be no difference in using a trolley compared to carrying it by hand? You'd want the trolley wrapped in something soft though to protect it I reckon. I'm hoping to buy one myself later in the year so would be keen to hear from others too. It sounds like a good idea you have there.
if you still have the foam, it's the perfect support instead of having to pull on the tube, which could cause damage. I would also have the handle side of the base towards the back of the trolley, so there's no stress placed on the tube.
I have used the 'sack truck' method for over 2 years with my 12" dob without damage to the telescope, mount or the alignment but I have found that the 2 attaching straps are near enough to essential.
Would this be OK to go to the beach for the lunar eclipse?
I found the trolley in an OP shop just a couple of weeks ago. It is thermo material, which is good, and I was happy that the base fits in because the base of the SW Heritage 130p is huge.
