First astro image

I had my first serious attempt at imaging last night and am pretty happy with the results. This is a single unprocessed 5m exposure @ iso800 straight from the camera.

I took 4 x 5min @ iso1600, 5 x 5min @ iso800, 5 x 5min @ iso400, and 3 x 1m @ iso400.

But, I've no idea how to process them yet. I can stack them in DSS, but have no idea what to do after that.

I have GIMP but can't find any tutorials so am only randomly trying things with very poor results.

Any advice would be most welcome.

Kev

Hi Kev,

Nice 1st image. Your stars look nice and round. For 1 exp. you have pleny of data and once stacked should look really good.

Sorry I can't give you any help processing with gimp or dss as I don't use either but I'm sure someone that does will come to your aid.

Cheers

Thanks John.

What do you use/recommend for processing?

Welcome Kev and a great image.
I found these youtube clips to be very informative.
There are lots of parallels between PS and GIMP, so they should help you get started.

Thanks Bo.

I just watched the first and have learnt a bit already. Hopefully I can translate it into Gimp.

Regards, Kev
