Inconsiderate neighbours!

I was walking around outside my observatory a little while ago (about 3am) and noticed not a single neighbours porch light, not a single street light nothing anywhere, complete blackness.....until...I looked south ...there in the distance I could see three lights, peaking over the tree tops - the only lights visible on the entire horizon....they were left on at Mt Stromlo Observatory ...I mean can you believe that the only lights visible in a 360deg sweep are from a bloody observatory (all be it 23km away)..it's almost like a bazzar joke

Its Payback for all you Canberranians allowing the growth of suburbia to the point where they are now building houses on the slopes of Mount Stromlo.

Oh, POOR YOU Michael. I will cry a VERY small tear for you

I think I take images of bugs shining in skyglow, not stars

I was out till 2. Then MaxIM decided to drop guiding after the clouds rolled over once too often, and then wouldn't calibrate (I knew I should not have recalibrated anyways, but, I did...well, tried to). And then my green subs were showing odd blips. Gave up.

I think Mt Stromlo is onto you anyway. Trying to dethrone your APOD statii (is statii the plural of status?)

Amazing huh? Wright is directly under the slopes of the Mountain, I remember when they started Weston Creek well over 30 years ago there was restrictions on the type of lighting, which is still evident today when you drive in there at night...shame

You should email them, then post the response you get

(It'll be for A) security or B) safety reasons IMO)

Ask them if they can at least put red bulbs in.

Ask for them to put in H-a emitting light sources... that'll bug ya!

Gee, poor Mike, if it wasn't the wind, now it's 3 itty bitty lights 20 km away. BOOHOO

It's a Liberal conspiracy

I thought you were going to say the roos were pooing near the observatory. Sounds like you're back near old stomping grounds Mike if you're that close to Stromlo.

I'll be up at Stromlo tonight, if you like I'll turn the lights off when I get there. The only one that will be left on is my 3000W searchlight but I'll point that towards Wallaroo so it shouldn't bother anyone.

Well, seems someone was listening?...tonight there are no lights on at Stromlo..?? a quick 360 deg walk around the observatory reveals not a single light visible anywhere - guess I can't complain about that

I never noticed you were actually in Canberra, Mike, I only ever looked at distance and it says 380km's away.

Hard to believe Mt Stromlo would do that, were you able to pick which part up there was lit? (Thinking it was from someones house up there rather than a 'commercial' building).

I had someone up at Mt Tuggeranong last night with huge floodlights, I was going to take a photo but couldn't find the Canon. It would have been a fantastic conjunction with Venus.
