EOI 50mW green laser finder/pointer $150

Will possibly have one or two 50mW 532nm green laser finder/pointers available in a couple of weeks, maybe 3 or 4 weeks.
Like these ones advertised at telescopes and astronomy for $510

http://www.telescopes-astronomy.com....l-supplier.htm

(About halfway down page on the right hand side under the heading rifle & pistol range.)

The ones I get will have IR filters unlike the ones mentioned above.

If these get sold I may try get more if there is interest, possibly higher power or different colours if requested.

Comes with 20mm weaver/picatinny rail mount. Also 25mm weaver/picatinny ring mount. Have a particular mount request I will see what I can do. May fit in a finder bracket that can handle a 25mm diameter tube.

Beam angle adjustable via dials on outside of tube to precisely align with telescope.

2 types of switches. 1 push on push off switch at back and 1 pressure switch on a springy lanyard type cord (stretches from about 30cm-60cm).

Uses 3V CR123A battery (1 supplied).

Brand new in a sturdy cardboard carry box with foam inserts.

$150 for 50mW variety.

Please be aware of the laser laws in your state.
These are not toys and should not be treated as such.
Even with IR filters attached, damage can still be caused if you are not careful.
Please be safe with lasers or laws restricting these even for astro use may be tightened.

Hi Barry.
I did not receive your PM.
I have sent one to you to see if that works.

OK, the first 2 have been purchased and there seems to be interest so I will get more.
Just send me a PM and I'll put you on the list.
Make colour and power requests and I'll see what I can do.
I may try a violet or blue one myself so will provide photos when I have it.
The green is most often used as it is the easiest colour for our eyes to pick up but a high enough power in other colours may also work. Will have to see first though so I will let you all know.
Kris.

You are making a big mistake. Any laser above >1mW is classified as a prohibited weapon in all Australian states and territories. As you are importing them into Australia, you'll need a customs permit otherwise the authorities will come down on you like a ton of bricks. Don't risk it.

I am not a lawyer. The comment below is my understanding from several years of following the laser debate.

You might right for hand held laser pointers in Victoria but it is not the same in NSW. There is an exemption list of astronomical associations, controlled by the NSW police, which covers association members when engaged in astronomy.

Unless they've changed the regulations recently:
  1. The restrictions only apply to hand held lasers. They do not apply to lasers which are attached to a device such as a telescope.
  2. Assembled hand held laser pointers require a prohibited weapons import permit. Importing a bare laser module does not.

A laser pointer above 1 milliwatt is a prohibited weapon. It is defined as "A hand-held, battery-operated article designed or adapted to emit a laser beam with an accessible emission limit of greater than 1 mW" according to a list of prohibited weapons.

Might wanna rethink vic sales bud before you end up getting rear eneded in a prison cell. Lol we can't even collect swords anymore, though there are ways around it we can't do it 100% by the book anymore. Really the owners of this forum should have stopped this thread and its on there hands, on ocau we have a clear non weapons sales statement.

Yes, this was discussed not long ago on IIS, I've bookmarked it

http://www.police.nsw.gov.au/service...mits/?a=136099

The third paragraph from the bottom lets us off the hook if we're members of one of the astronomical societies linked.

Still, don't go overboard with power and be very careful, those things are not toys.

Cheers
Steffen.

I'm aware of NSW laser laws and as mentioned being a member of an Astro society I am excempt from needing a permit, (I am a member of NSW Astro society).
Also as to removing this thread due to lasers being a weapon, that kind of talk is making it difficult for legitimate users like those here who want them for Astro use where they are very handy tools not weapons.
Its illegal to carry a knife as a weapon, its legal to carry a knife to cut your steak.
Just as mentioned in the ad, be aware of your state laws, these are sold for Astro use, they can be mounted to your telescope if you live in a sensitive state or don't meet exemption requirements, i.e. accepted astro group member.
If someone is handy with electronics you could even make it mains powered, therefore not battery operated.

As I understand it thier is a separate definition here. To own and use a laser above 1mw is indeed covered in most states by your membership to an Astro society.

However the importing of and selling of these said lasers fall into a separate area of the law. This is why thier is an application process for this and not one to use a laser. The fact that as a member I am able to use one for astronomy, I am in no way allowed to sell or import these items..

Might pay to have a look at this as the law is tough on this, as silly as most of us think it is. Do you think if I used one in my plane it would cause cars to crash? LOL

buy in lots, sell them fast and shut the door....

You could be on to something Mardy.
I have a handful of orders I will complete and send out.
But I may consider holding back after that.
I am totally confident they are legal to use for astronomy, but I may get myself into a tricky situation selling too many of them.
They are weird laws that weren't thought through very well and the sensible people are the ones who suffer.

And by the way Mardy.
The cars would only crash if your laser was hand held and/or battery operated.
