Thumbs up First night out with a TV 15mm Plossl

Hi all,

Where did that haze come from? luckily it cleared quite quickly. Tried out the eyepiece in the 8" scope tonight, but without a mount it made it difficult to point to any worth while objects. I did however watch a couple of stars go by the field which gave me a chance to look at the stars which looked bl dy fantastic from one side to the other of the eyepiece. Also looked at Jupiter but I was holding the scope so made it difficult to look at.

Okay moved onto the TAL-1 this scope has perfect optics and the out of focus star tests show it too. Matched with the 15mm EP gave a magnification of about 53x, I managed to find Eta Carina the Keyhole looked brilliant, even for a 4.3" scope and very bright moon, colours in the stars were very evident. I had another quick look around checking the bright star test on Alpha Centauri, no ghosting or flaring whatsoever.

One thing I did notice more than anything else is the way stars just "snap" into focus, it seemed to do it with ease, my other plossls just seem to blur into focus. Another thing to note is that using the 12.5mm and 15mm eyepieces next to one another the 15mm looked great giving a slightly wider field but in the 15mm more stars were seen in the keyhole and surrounds, and seemed alot clearer also the nebula was very easily seen, compared with the 12.5mm but I guess the quality had alot to do with this.

I can't wait to get a mount for my 8" scope and really test it out.

This eyepiece is very nice, if your looking at upgrading to some better plossls this is the way to go, at about $145 an eyepiece it certainly wont break the bank in a hurry. I will be eventually swapping all my other plossls for these, and keep the older plossls for public viewing nights etc...

9 out of 10, lost a point cos I want more of them

Thanks for the review Andrew. When I gain employment I do plan to buy some TV Plossls for galaxy hunting

Glad you are enjoying the TV eyepiece...

I agree with your assesment, they are pretty good and not too bad on the bank account (all things considered). I've picked a couple TV plossls second hand and you will not hear me complaining about them.
