For a little while I'd thought of getting myself a Full frame camera, with an upcoming "photo trip" to NZ and after seeing the great high ISO performance of the Canon 6D I ordered mine last week. With the clear skies in melbourne I was hoping that I would have it to test out on the weekend. However it didnt arrive in time but with clear skies I knew I'd regret not heading out, so the faithful 60D and I went out for possibly the last time (well it wont be I'm sure it will come on lots of adventures with me in the future, it might get used for some star trail shots)
Here is a shot from last night, this shot was taken from the outer burbs in melbourne (about 30mins from my home out to the east so the brigher lights of the city are behind me to the west). The moon was still up but setting in the west, it worked well in lighting up the foregound nice and evenly. Will need to figure out if its the moon or the location (I think a bit of both) that meant that the milky way wasnt as
prominent as it could be and so eye popping as alot of the shots here.
The framing was a little tough as the central bulge was already high in the sky, but I have taken some shots to stitch as a vertical pano so will have to see how that looks when I have some more processing time.
Some quick processing done in lightroom, correct WB, tonal curve adjustment, NR. Happy for suggestions/improvements I can make here.
8 seconds, f2.0, ISO1600
