Both my FLI cameras don't have cover slips which is an option with FLI cameras. As Peter says there is a slight increase in QE (1%) but also a reduction in some instances of minor haloing.
So as its a write off anyway there is little risk in removing it. I was not aware there are 2 layers of glass - I thought there was only 1 but don't know that.
You could potentially simply have that glass removed if possible (it usually is a Kodak option to supply without the cover slip so FLI probably get them already like that).
