Hi folks...I'm new to the forum, but I have been looking at the night sky since I was 10 (that is, about 57 years).
I know this thread is is about 18 months old, so sorry for the necro-posting.
But... I just had cataract surgery (left eye) a few days ago and I have this huge diffraction spike from any concentrated light source, about 20-25 degrees CW from the vertical (i.e. ~ 1 o'clock thru 7 o'clock).
I read an archived S&T article (2014) by Jerry and Kathy Oltion discussing Kathy's post surgical diffraction spike. Hers was caused by a wrinkle in the implanted lens. Sometimes it resolves on its own, sometimes not. She had to have a capsulotomy to remedy the problem.

Has anyone here had cataract surgery and the diffraction spike problem since that time? Or any other post surgical "Artifacts"?

If so, how did you handle it? (I'm going nuts thinking this will ruin any future observing) Thanks
