Weather along the Florida coast is very similar to the Queensland coast, unsurprisingly.
While that sometimes leads to dicey weather, the advantages of the launch site being closer to the equator are significant enough for them to do it. Florida is otherwise largely flat and swampy, so it's not like there were other natural advantages
