G’day Alice, go slow on purchases, you dont need much to enjoy the night sky anywhere in the world and the skies the limit on what you can end up spending. Plus its easy for beginners to buy wrong from the start on stuff that “looks” great but really garbage to look through, and/or, too difficult to even use. If you’re young and renting etc consider having to cart around large gear in future to new places you live, so dont be afraid to buy “small and portable” like comfortable binoculars or small portable/desktop dobsonian telescope. After time people can gravitate to different aspects of astronomy too while newbies make the mistake of wanting/expecting everything. As you start and progress your understanding and experience will change but most important of all is to be able to get outside and enjoy the sky you can see. And the view will never ben good enough no matter where you are or how much you spend,which is why we have Hubble and James Webb space telescopes because from earth perfect viewing is impossible no matter how much money you spend but damn you can get to enjoy the sky for years with even modest gear.
