It occurred to me to wonder whether you have aligned the finder with the
main scope. Align your scope on something a few hundred metres distant
[during the day, not at night], putting the object in the centre of the field of view, and then use the adjusting screws on the finder, centre the object in the finder.
Collimation would have to be massively out for the user to see nothing.
