Hi Marc, there is, as can be sort of seen, a small gap between the bottom of
the glacier and the ground. It is resting on countless millions of small rocks,
and the melt off flows through the gap. Almost all of Peru's glaciers are in rapid retreat. This one was retreating at a rate of approx. 25mtrs per year
when I took this shot 15yrs ago, so I am assuming that it has retreated 350/400mtrs further since then.
