Thanks mate for the warning. I am now considering just giving her my Celestron 80mm spotting scope. No Eyepieces to change, it has a 20x to 60x zoom, no pieces to lose, other than the lens cap.. It is rugged and comes in a padded bag. It would be way over budget if I was buying it for her, but it's sitting in my closet and I hardly use it. I might have to get her a better short tripod than my tall skinny old one.
