On something like the 300mm L series it's superb. There are a couple of lenses that it won't AF on due to the 2 stops of light loss. I think there is only 1 stop of loss on the 1.4x.

A 2x on my 70-200mm f4L would turn it into a f8, but on a f2.8 lens - very nice

I ran a similar test on the Canon 40mm F5.6 with the x1.4 and the x2 converters and when tripod mounted and using a remote release, both converters gave stunning results.
