This is the right forum to get you going on this! If you haven't already, download the PDF user manual, at
http://waix.dl.sourceforge.net/sourc...de-0.9.0-1.pdf.
Have a quick read of Appendix E and F to get you started on the basic astronomy side.
Post any questions and try to help us to help you by pointing out if it is a question about Stellarium itself or something you don't quite understand about astronomy.
