Thanks for the recommendation.
Reading it on my Kindle now and enjoying it.
I'm now 72 so all this is still in my memory.
I remember standing outside with the whole street looking up at Spitnik 1.
The school headmaster, as they were called then, addressed each class when Gagarin had his flight. We, my school mates and I, were all aware of the history of the occasion.
I feel very lucky to have been able to live at this most amazing time, the 60s, as a teenager. So much promise for the future then. What happened? We have gone backwards.
