Shooting for the geminids

I've never done this before, and they are supposed to be peaking early this week. What's the best way to do it? I'll be automating as I'm too lazy to get up that early.

Plonk my 450D on a tripod (no tracker), wide angle lens (I've got a 14mm), point in the right direction roughly and just let it rip through some highish ISO 15-20sec shots??

I didn't know they from just general debris, not asteroids.
My gloom and doom - it will probably be all for nothing given the lousy weather Sydney has seen since I don't know when !!!

Cheers Chris
