Ok....

I was hesitant to post a reply to the challenge.

There were a few choices for my processing,
but I went with Snap seed for the first image and
Windows viewer for the second.

Like Bojan, I used curves to do the bulk of the processing.

A little noisy, but over all I'm happy with the result.
