As a relative newbie myself, I would highly recommend a zoom lens to start with. When I got one it greatly enhanced by viewing experience. I 2nd what Martin said a moon filter is an absolute must.

BTW; good luck sticking with just one scope. Been into this hobby for only 1 year have already upgraded the mount once and now looking at a 2nd scope.
