But... I just had cataract surgery (left eye) a few days ago and I have this huge diffraction spike from any concentrated light source, about 20-25 degrees CW from the vertical (i.e. ~ 1 o'clock thru 7 o'clock).
I read an archived S&T article (2014) by Jerry and Kathy Oltion discussing Kathy's post surgical diffraction spike. Hers was caused by a wrinkle in the implanted lens. Sometimes it resolves on its own, sometimes not. She had to have a capsulotomy to remedy the problem.

Has anyone here had cataract surgery and the diffraction spike problem since that time? Or any other post surgical "Artifacts"?

If so, how did you handle it? (I'm going nuts thinking this will ruin any future observing) Thanks
I had both eyes done last year and had the same problem with my left eye, which just happens to be my dominant eye due lazy eye issues with my right eye as a child. I had a routine checkup with my eye surgeon in his rooms 3 weeks after surgery and I mentioned this to him and showed him a simple sketch I had done of what I was seeing when viewing a light source (2 diffraction spikes in my case). Result was l found myself sitting in front of some fancy laser gear that he used to remove minor scar tissue from the surgery that was causing the problem. Hope this helps!
