I evaporate aluminium followed by half wave thickness of silicon monoxide for protection. The silicon monoxide turns to silicon dioxide (quartz) after exposure to atmospheric oxygen. Reflectivity is 90% and does not deteriorate as in the case of unprotected aluminium.
