Lunar Eclipse Widefield Animation

This one is a widefield version of the more natural version.

The starfield is a mosaic of 3 panels I shot the night after the eclipse when the moon had moved closer to Antares. It's good enough to make a scaffold and register the moon video. When I get color I'll do another montage with the whole shebang as that part of the sky is very colorful.

So what I did was registering the stars in the video during totality to the static starfield. I had 100 frames or so to play with. That was enough to give me a small segment to orient and extrapolate the complete moon path. Then I got a few screen grabs from sky safari for the beginning, totality and end of the sequence as I had the exact time stamps.

That gave me two things.

The start and end points for the moon path and speed along with the totality accurate placement.

The motion of the earth shadow. Start, totality and end of the sequence.

Then it was all a matter of keyframing and letting it play. The moon is layered as screen for clarity. It's quite interesting to see the shadow moving and it becomes obvious watching it why it was so short and so bright.

Hope you enjoy the sequence. It wasn't straight forward to put together but in the end it works and it's quite interesting
