Thanks Lee - I too prefer the first image (picture number 1) as the tonal range within the central portion of the neb is, IMHO, better.
I always like to compare what I've done from the backyard here in suburbia to what Hubble has produced and as you can see from the attached image, at this scale, mine stacks up pretty well. I'm especially happy with the shading in the central portion of the neb - it seems to match the Hubble (on the left) image quite well.
