Unfortunately Ubuntu is going backwards. I've just spent a frustrating 30 minutes trying, unsuccessfully, to empty the trash. I've run screaming from the new desktop and am using the old gnome (2.6??) but even that doesn't have the functionality it used to have. The upgrade to 12.04 broke my favourite music player, Amarok, which now steadfastly refuses to make a peep. Testing the sound card from within Amarok works and it makes the goodbye sound but the music is still absent. I'm now using VLC but find it even more clunky. And the inbuilt backup utility inspired such confidence that I now backup with rsync.
