Microsoft IMO have become disfunctional, they are so intent on emulating apple and delivering the market tablet computing on a grand scale, they've forgotten that the vast majority of users don't want apple style interfaces and confusion and that if it's not busted don't fix it.
With every new OS there's the catch cry "it's faster, and more stable", any speed increases gradually run down the update drain, usually when the dust settles the OS is no quicker than the one it replaced.
Vista was no more stable than WinXP, it just crashed more elegantly as did Win7. IMO XP was the most productive and easy to use OS that MS have produced, every OS since then has been a retrograde step.
We can only hope that one day Linux becomes the mainstream OS that Windows should have been.
FWIW Sony Vegas is a good piece of software, there arre a few versions available, I'm not sure how it would fare with timelapse stuff but for professional video editing it is highly regarded.
