You could use redshift to do this - http://jonls.dk/redshift/

It is designed for subtly shifting the colour temperature at night to ease your eyes, but you can use it in a non subtle way by just running `redshift -O 1000` to drop your colour temperature immediately to 1000K - fiddle with that number to your taste.

Run `redshift -x` to get it back to the default.
