3 Juno

Hi,

After tracking down and photographing Vesta and Ceres earlier this year I thought I would have a go at finding 3 Juno. I used the chart provided in the August issue of US Sky and Telescope. Interestingly, both Megastar and Stellarium had Juno in a different location to the Sky and Telescope chart. I checked with the minor planet centre http://www.minorplanetcenter.org/iau/mpc.html and got their ephemeris. Their calculations fitted with the Sky and Telescope chart.

Star hopping, I found 3 Juno (mag 9.6) on July 2nd with my 15cm F8 Dobsonian and photographed the region with my Canon DSLR ISO1600, F5.0 at 250mm. I observed again tonight (July 3rd) and was pleased to see that what I thought was Juno had moved. Attached is the photograph from July 2nd.

For more info on 3 Juno see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/3_Juno

Fun to do all of this from suburban Sydney on a couple of chilly winter's nights.
