The reality is that most businesses are doing it pretty tough right now. You'll have heard it before, but you have to keep applying and trying to get interviews best you can. Perhaps even request work experience spots for periods to boost skills or take lesser jobs while waiting on a "Dream" position.
Its been drummed into me to trust instincts at interviews. Its very helpful to get someone with good marks and qualifications, but the tough part is identifying new employees with a drive to learn and attitude to take on any problem. You can teach those sorts of people to do nearly anything.
Its tough getting your foot in the door though. Hope you get given a chance soon.
