I tend to feel the "market" is FLOODED with IT specialists, and so many to choose from. It seems to a LOT of IT is being out-sourced, with Indian web page development being SO SO SO cheap compared to what Aussies charge (I have a website hosted out of Israel, and the whole enchilada including email, cpanel, domain, sub domains etc all cost me $45 a YEAR)
The real boon is medical at the moment. I have never been unemployed for more than 2 days in my line of work. And the demand is increasing ever more.
