creating a personal website

Hi all,

This might be directed to those members into domain names and website building etc...

I've started looking at a couple of those online website builders (Weebly, Webs and Wix) and I have found the incredibly useful and reliable for running a small personal astro site - just to show off some pictures etc.

Under their 'free' plans you get their company extension, e.g. myastropics.weebly.com or myastropics.webs.com etc. you get the point... To spruce it up a bit they offer a domain name so you can remove the company name and just have myastropics.com

To the point of my post... They offer .com or .net as an extension. In this day and age does it matter for a personal "hobby" site? Is having a .com (originally used for a company or business) misleading? I understand .net was used for providers of a network so a personal "hobby" site doesn't really fit into that category either.

What would you choose? .com or .net?

Who has their own astro website with as dedicated domain name and if so what do you use?

Once I get the site up and running I'll pop it in my signature.

Cheers,
Russ
