There is nothing wrong with starting with focuser first, after all, it is an integral part of the structure... I would do the same.
I suppose you were using Qubelok square tubes?
What is the total weight of your OTA?
I am thinking about Qubelok tubes for my version of Seurrier truss, to replace my fibre-glass tube with something lighter (my 10" F5.6 OTA is 18kg, a bit too much for EQ6 in my opinion).
Did you consider filling tubes with polyurethane foam (for damping vibrations and additional sturdiness)?
