Hi Roger. I rolled an ankle on the way to work about 12 years ago - and kept going, thinking it would be OK. It took a couple of days before I went to a doctor and that led quickly to seeing a specialist in ankle injuries and surgery. One of the outer strap tendons at the outer aspect of the heel had torn badly and required serious surgery to try to re-connect the torn ends of that tendon. The surgery involved having to apply some sort of patch to the damaged tendon and by all accounts it went as well as hoped. But subsequently, the foot was immobilised in a boot/cast thing that this doctor's surgery nurse applied - and did it badly because it placed the foot at a bad angle - too much toe-down. And the result was that the patch did not survive the pressure and I now have an ankle that is permanently weakened.
I don't know if there is a moral to this story or not - probably not. Just that if you have the surgery, keeping off the foot as much as possible would be absolutely essential. I couldn't because I had to go overseas for work and that was a disaster.
