Meade 10" LX50

Ok,

My 2013 telescope cleanout continues!

This time it’s my Meade 10” LX50.

I’ve only had this scope for a few months and in the process of upgrading to something even bigger hence the sale.

The previous owners have kept it in immaculate condition. If you’d like to read more about it online, the complete manual can be found at the Meade site:

http://www.meade.com/manuals/lx50/

In a nutshell, it’s a good quality “push to” 10” SCT. It has the same optics as the 10” Meade LX200. The difference is in the base and the electronics.
Included is:
  • The 10” SCT telescope itself with standard finder
  • Meade Wedge
  • Meade Field Tripod
  • Standard Meade handbox with slow motion controls for both RA and DEC drives
  • 12v car lighter power lead. It also runs off AA batteries for a fair amount of time – no computer, so no massive power drain – but a 12v battery pack will power it forever
  • 2” Celestron SCT back and diagonal.
  • Argo Navis encoders –note, these are the encoders only and does not include the Arvo Navis handbox itself.
  • Telrad
  • Printed manual
  • Various allan keys
  • Standard camera piggy-back mount
  • Wrap around Orion dew shield
  • 2 x Meade Plossl eyepieces (12.4 and 6.4 mm)
  • Set of Bob’s Knob (unfitted)
  • 1 x 2” GSO Superview eyepiece

To answer some of the questions I’ve already had:
  • It’s not a Goto telescope, but there's a range of electronic "gizmos" that could be plugged into the encoder port to give you digital setting circles and an interface to planetarium software such as Stellarium.
  • It does however have tracking ability once polar aligned.
  • Can it be used for astrophotography? Maybe. Short exposure yes. There’s some debate about the LX50 for long exposure in the various interwebs forums.

Finally, this is a very solid, well built, and heavy telescope. Please be aware of this when considering purchase.

Located in the Sutherland Shire south of Sydney.

I do not have the original packing cartons. Packing and shipping of the telescope would be at the buyer’s expense.

Asking price is $1190.

Cheers,

Earl
